After some years of being married to Ken Hall, Mary attempted to acquire a copy of the divorce papers from James McDermitt. He told her, he had filed in California. He died during the 1980's from cancer. The State of California could not locate the papers. Mary concluded that Jim had not filed for divorce, thus they had not been lawful separated. Also, it came into question if Jim McDermitt has been lawfully divorced from his first wife. This placed a question mark on her marriage with Ken Hall. She and Ken decided to lawfully marry again, at the:
"Mary Jo and Kenneth Hall married in Webster, Day County, South Dakota around 3 Jul 1974 (A-6111).

on Christmas morning (December 25, 12:05 am) 1988. Present at this very special midnight service were her daughters: Beverly Jo Frost (maid-of-honor), Barbara June Frost, and son-in-law, Alexandro Rivera (best man). Pastor Richard Stewart presiding. Pastor Stewart had married Barbara and Alex at this same church on August 8, 1985. After they remarried, the documents for James E. McDermeit were located, thus validating their first marriage.".4Daughters of the American Revolution - Caples, M. J..
